Governance

The SSA Ontology is survivor-authored public infrastructure. Openness does not mean definitions can be detached from provenance, silently rewritten, or used to erase the people and evidence from which they emerged.

Stable identifiers

Published concept URIs should not be reassigned to different meanings.

Visible change

Definition, scope, relationship, and status changes should be included in release notes.

Evidence before structure

Broader, narrower, causal, and equivalence relations should not be asserted merely because they seem plausible.

Attribution

Reuse is encouraged under CC BY 4.0 with clear attribution to the ontology and creator.

Status model

DeprecatedRetained for compatibility but no longer preferred.

Semantic preservation rules

Translations, summaries, classifications and new versions are mappings—not replacements. Original wording, provenance, context and earlier meanings remain linked and recoverable. Machine-readable representations and visible human wording are generated from the same canonical record.
